ANTONIO B. LAZARO
Antonio B. Lazaro is a true blooded maroon as he is a product of the University of the Philippines since he started his primary education with the UP Elementary School in 1967, finished his high school in 1978 and then his Bachelor’s degree in Tourism in 1984 and later on pursued a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the School of Urban and Regional Planning. He also took up doctoral units with the Philippine Studies Program with the UP Asian Center from 1988 to 1994 and the U.P. School of Urban and Regional Planning from 2009 to 2014.
Prof. Lazaro also had a chance to study in the Institute of Housing and Urban Development Studies in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 1990 and earned a special degree on Urban and Regional Planning.
As a professional, he has worked with the Office of the President of the Philippines and several non-governmental organizations like the Philippine Business for Social Progress, the biggest corporate led NGO in the country, the World Wildlife Fund, an international NGO for the environment and served as Consultant with World Bank – Manila and UN Habitat in various disciplines like social housing, urban development, environmental and tourism studies. At present, he is still listed as an on call and short term consultant for World Bank and the United Nations Habitat.
He was also an Assistant Professor of the UP Asian Institute of Tourism and served as the Institute Secretary of the UP unit from 2006 to 2009. Aside from UP, he also served as part time lecturer for the Development Academy of the Philippines and other prestigious schools. He used to be a full time faculty of another higher educational institution until December 2017. He has been connected intermittently with Kalayaan College as part time faculty member since 2010 and now appointed as College Registrar.
In the course of his academic and professional works, he has written a number of unpublished articles on tourism, specifically on Ecotourism, Tourism Planning and Development and lastly, on Cultural Tourism.
From both professional life and personal, Prof. Lazaro has been travelling a lot both locally and internationally. This makes his credentials as professor for tourism related subjects very appropriate.
